While common, most headaches aren’t generally serious and are easily treated with painkillers and lifestyle changes including rest and drinking enough fluids.

Most headaches fall into one of four categories: vascular headaches – caused by problems affecting the blood vessels, such as migraine headaches; tension headaches – typically brought on by muscle tension; inflammatory headaches – caused by infections or lesions including tumours; and cranial headaches – caused by problems with the cranial nerves, or cranial neuralgias around the head and neck.
